How A Multi-Facility Gas Storage Company Improved Profitability from Asset Integrity Management with Antea Data Services
A client with nine small to medium gas storage plants/facilities was keeping mechanical integrity data in multiple silos that had grown out of years of departmental nesting of databases. This siloing of data meant that maintenance, operations, engineering, and other departments all had their own separate and distinct database(s).
Remedying this setup was of paramount importance and a key client goal was to create a centralized database that would be informed by data and intelligence coming from all departments in order to create a true 360° view of their asset data. The second aspect of this challenge was how to keep this database evergreen and accurate with only limited resources at each site.
The company leveraged Antea’s Asset Integrity Management (AIM) software and Data Management as a Service (DMS). The first steps in the process were:
- Understand where everything rested within the company’s current data management universe;
- Discover how data was being gathered and matriculated into larger datasets; and,
- Identify current shortfalls that present a challenge to the company’s data quality moving forward.
With limited inspection personnel to begin with, and all of whom were working remotely, it was difficult for the company to manage the amount of data being generated from nine separate facilities – including, but not limited to, inspection data, test data, and any data stemming from the maintenance activities at each of the sites on a daily basis. The sheer amount of asset data to process was overwhelming to the limited and remote-working resources. Yet, this process was quite critical due to the regulatory requirements of their region regarding inspections of pressure equipment, and the risk associated with unplanned outages. Thus, a solution was required imminently.
Due to the size of the company’s facilities, it was not economically feasible to have a resource on each site. Antea proposed that the client pay a fixed amount every year for data management as a service – that is, to have a specialized team either visit their sites on some interval commensurate to the amounts of data they were generating, or, to manage their data remotely in the cloud. These services include the following:
- Data collection
- Manage any updates to P&IDs
- Import new inspection reports
- Import new NDT data
- Import any new isometric drawings that might have been created
- Training and support for users on site
- Any other data input into software (maintenance repairs, revisions, etc.)
As a result of leveraging the data management services, the company has experienced and can expect to continue to reap the following benefits:
- Solved documentation issue with the government regulators;
- Reduced overall document management costs;
- Reduced time required to provide the documents update;
- Reduced input errors; and
- Greater ROI from their software investment.
